Meet Mia, Your OT

Hi, I’m Mia Tarpey, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, proud mum of four, and the founder of Therapy for Kids Perth and Therapy Sensory Store in Myaree, Perth.

I became a mum at just 16 and raised four very different children, including neurodivergent kids, while studying and building my career. I originally started in psychology before changing to Occupational Therapy at Curtin University. Motherhood combined with my work as an OT has given me a deep, real-world understanding of child development, sensory needs, parenting challenges, and what actually works at home.

Why I Started This Store

Through my own parenting experiences, I’ve learned that no two children are the same. What supports one child beautifully might not suit another. This realisation became even clearer when parents at my clinic kept asking:

“What toys or tools should we use at home for sensory regulation, heavy work, fine motor skills, gross motor development, handwriting, anxiety, or emotional regulation?”

I saw a big gap, high-quality, therapy-grade resources weren’t easily accessible for families. So I created Therapy Sensory Store, a carefully curated physical store and online shop in Myaree where every product is handpicked by me after extensive research. Our range supports sensory processing, neurodiversity, fine and gross motor skills, emotional regulation, and overall child development.

What started as one small clinic in Myaree three years ago has now grown into Therapy for Kids Perth with three locations (Myaree, Canning Vale & Beckenham) and a multidisciplinary team of over 30 therapists. Therapy Sensory Store is the natural extension of that mission, bringing professional therapy tools and advice directly into your home.

A Little More About Me

I’m passionate about making parenting feel less overwhelming and more supported. I love sharing the lessons I’ve learned as both a mum and an OT so other families feel seen and equipped.

Outside of work, my greatest joys are my three sons, my daughter, and our two crazy dogs, Hazel and Raff (you’ll spot them often on our socials). I’m obsessed with soft cheese, love to dance, travel whenever I can, and stay grounded through movement and exercise. I still feel scared almost daily, but I’ve learned to embrace it and keep growing.

Therapy Sensory Store is truly my passion project. It’s where my professional expertise meets my heart as a mum. Whether you’re looking for the right sensory tools, practical advice, or just someone who truly gets the journey, I’m so glad you’re here.
